My e-book – It’s not what you know, it’s what you apply
With this in mind I thought I would just continue and write as much as I could on each subject, share my expertise and experience. Before I knew it I had ten tips for each of the subject areas and had written over 17,000 words. It was at this point that I realised that actually I might have a book in me after all. I decided to engage the services of a book designer and editor to help me and give me some much needed advice.
Feedback from editor
I always encourage my clients to seek feedback from others, whether they are a Director, Manager or Sales Person. So it felt only right that I should do as I say, so I sent my draft manuscript to the editor asking for feedback. Here is a selection of the feedback that I received from her: “I like your conversational approach, and the way that you write in bite-sized ‘chunks’. There are many useful nuggets included…” I was grateful for the feedback and it gave me the drive to continue working on my book as I knew I was on the right track.
The creation of my e-book
After discussion with the editor, designer and the marketing agency working on my rebrand, it became clear that I had enough content for a book and an e-book. I decided that I would focus my attention on creating the e-book first as I wanted people who came to my website to have something that they could download. I didn’t want to hold anything back. It was important to me that it was something that would add real value to the reader.
Leadership
I decided that the e-book would focus on leadership. I come across so many leaders that know stuff, but they don’t apply what they know. This gave me the idea for the title ‘It’s not what you know, it’s what you apply’. I then decided to share my 5 pillars of motivational leadership which are:
- Connecting with your people
- Get curious
- Being present
- Suspending judgement
- Developing a progressive mindset
